7 21st Century Careers You Should Consider
7 21st Century Careers You Should Consider In five yearsâ time thereâll be careers that no one has even thought of yet; in ten yearsâ time the world of work will have changed beyond recognition. The pace at which technology is developing will transform our lives in unimaginable ways. Pretty scary huh. Well maybe, but itâs also pretty exciting. You know that your working future is going to be one unpredictable road trip. Even if you opt for one of the traditional roles, like being a teacher, thereâs no way that job is going to be anything like what it is now, ten years from now. So whatâs a girl to do? Make that skillset broad and adaptable and remember, you donât need to be a weatherwoman to tell which way the wind blows. So with that in mind, letâs start with some old favourites. Dental Hygienist Not sexy enough for you? Donât want to play second fiddle to the dentist? Fair enough, but letâs not be too hasty. That aging population of baby boomers need their gums attended to and there arenât nearly enough people out there to do it. Itâs a less demanding gig than being a dentist, itâs well paid and thereâs going to be plenty of work around for some time to come. Physio-therapist Again, this is a real shortage area and again an aging population means that this skill will continue to be in high demand, which means that you can work where you want and expect to be well paid for it. Location Scout Think Game of Thrones, think about all those locations and the problems involved in shooting in them. For someone who loves film and who loves travel this is the dream job. It takes luck and dedication to land this one though. Thereâs no clear route to the role. You could join a production company but that wonât necessarily get you where you want to be. Your best bet is probably to choose a location, learn the language, set up a website and start to make contacts. A popular directory for film and TV is mandy.com, so you might start by registering there. Professional eSports Gamer eSports are the fastest growing spectator sport in the world and top gamers make a lot of money. This year thereâs a prize pot totalling $63 million and thatâs only going to get bigger. The top male earner netted $2,618,120 this year, whilst the top female earner picked up $141,775. Thatâs quite a pay gap and yet women make up 52% of the gaming population. Time to start beating the boys at their own game. A job in the games industry This is so male dominated itâs ridiculous. As a woman designing games for women you would be worth your weight in gold, literally. Software designer/developer Same territory I know, but these people are the 21st century blacksmiths, everyone, everywhere, wants them. If youâve the skills, the desire and the courage to work in a male dominated field then the world is your oyster, in fact itâs the whole seafood platter. Social media influencer Yes, I am serious, this isnât just for pretty half-wits, itâs big business and itâs getting bigger. There are agencies like IMA and FameBit for bloggers and vloggers and they are being increasingly used by big business as part of their marketing strategy. Thereâs no telling if youâd still be doing this in two or three yearsâ time, but by then youâll be in a position to jump to the next stone. Image credits Main On Location Developers
